DOES IT OFFEND YOU YEAH? [14+ Gig]
SUNDAY 12 OCTOBER / THE EMPIRE / MIDDLESBROUGH

With a name derived from a David Brent quote, Reading nutters Does It Offend You, Yeah? are undoubtedly one of THE bands of 2008 so far. Their sound is, at times, a ludicrous cacophony of screeching rave-metal synths, whiplash inducing rhythms and absurdly abused vocoders that might draw lazy comparisons to that Klaxons band. There's more to it than that, though. Recent single 'Epic Last Song' had the melodic sensibilities of Bloc Party at their very, very best and showed that when they need to, DIOYY can write a dance-floor filling pop hit just as well as anybody else. There's also elements of Daft Punk, Justice and Digitalism in there too and they've nailed top drawer remixes for the likes of The Raconteurs, Muse and The White Stripes - as well as covering Whip It by Devo for an NME Awards CD. Whip It, good. They're spending most of their summer touring the world with the likes of Bloc Party and Nine Inch Nails, fitting in as many festival appearances as they can along the way and to be perfectly honest, October can't come soon enough!
