When local legends The Romance split up, singer Mattie Chipchase went on to form Billy The Kid. If you’re wondering what the other three did, then, well, look no further! My Pretend Orchestra was originally a solo project for guitarist Danny Bloomfield with the intention of making big, striking pop songs in the vein of Beck, Lou Reed and Damon Albarn. Danny roped in former band mates Shaz and Sean so he could bring life to his early bedroom recordings and thus, My Pretend Orchestra was born.

The band have already inked a lovely management deal with Supervision (the folks at the helm of Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs and The Cribs) and their demos on that myspace malarkey are already regularly exceeding a thousand listens a day. Cor blimey. It most certainly looks like being an intriguing few months for these chaps...

SATURDAY 19 JULY / ROCK FLOOR / THE EMPIRE / MIDDLESBROUGH

Ex Hurricane Party chaps unleashing some balls out classic rock and roll! Heavens Basement were born from the five corners of the UK with one sole ambition between them: to reach the summit of their potential and to be regarded alongside the bands that inspired them. Noble intentions are all well and good, but Heaven's Basement are about evolution, growth and reaching new heights. Defiance, risk taking, and self-challenge are their hallmarks. Amen to that, brother.

"We're all about big, energetic, statements of intent", says frontman Richie. "We're the band that will make you fall in love with Rock n' Roll all over again". One listen to their tunes on myspace and I'll tell you what, the whole office was in love. If you're looking for reference points, look no further than ACDC, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Guns 'n' Roses, Motley Crue and The Answer... turn it up to eleven!
